Often, an image comes before understanding, such as in a dream. By spending time with the image, refining it, listening to it, our consciousness can be expanded. That which has been sensed but not known can emerge into the light of awareness and be integrated into being, aiding the path of individuation.
Felicia Matto-Shepard will present on the use of art making in psychological transformation based on material from her personal process, as well as those of her students and patients. On Saturday, participants will be guided in the use of art making as active imagination. Alchemical Art is an exploratory method created by Matto-Shepard, built on the principles of experimentation, observation and the search for meaning. The day will begin with prima materia — thoughts, feelings and dream bits — submitting them to a series of experimental processes. Through attention to emotion, sensation, and reverie, the makers can work with their psyches to birth images.
