The soul of the immigrant as seen through various archetypes, such as mother, home, wanderer, belonging and identity.
LYNN ALICIA FRANCO, LCSW, is a member analyst of the C.G. Jung Institute of San Francisco and The Psychotherapy Institute in Berkeley. She teaches and supervises in both training programs and has been dedicated to the integration of socio-cultural, economic and political aspects of the psyche. Her interest in immigration has emerged in her journey from Bogota, Colombia to California.
In this workshop, we will study the archetypes underlying the immigrant’s journey through personal and clinical narratives. We will consider how individuation unfolds paradoxically in the immigrants’ multicultural mind, exploring how relational, social and spiritual aspects of psyche offer guidance through multiple cultural complexes where adaptation and creativity combine in the proculturation process. We will consider how personal narratives of necessity and vision must also account for the suffering of hardships, multiple losses, and cumulative disappointments. Each immigrant must learn to navigate the tensions between continuity and change, stability and freedom, belonging and separating while new cultural forms and identities are forged and created.
CAROLINA I. ROSALES-WYMAN, LCSW, is a candidate of the C.G. Jung Institute of San Francisco. She is a psychotherapist in private practice in Marin County, CA. She has a deep interest in the intersection of archetypes and trauma. She has lived in El Salvador, Canada, and the United States.
