The Red Book is a seminal work that came out of Jung's struggle to find his own myth. Sonu Shamdassani, the editor of The Red Book states that the ideas further elaborated in the Collected Works, all spring from this one source, with a key difference. As Cary Baynes put it, "His published books are doctored up for the world at large, or rather they are written out of his head & this out of his heart." Participants who have taken this class have expressed interest in restarting this yearlong series after the completion of its four year run. We will be covering The Red Book again from its beginning. QiRe Ching will read passages from The Red Book, pausing frequently to encourage questions and group discussion. The class will approach the material on several levels: What is Jung saying? How does the content relate to the conceptual framework Jung further elaborated in the Collected Works? What of the imaginal is being invoked in participants as they hear the passages being read to them?

QiRe Ching, LCSW is a member analyst of the C.G. Jung Institute of San Francisco. He teaches in the candidate training program and is in private practice.
