Unification, Mandalas, and Symmetry Transformations
in Analytical Psychology and Quantum Field Theory

TUITION: $120

4 CEUs

At The Institute and Livestream

Jung saw human wholeness as the ultimate goal of psychotherapy. He wrote extensively on mandalas, symmetrical images, as symbols of this wholeness. Jung came to see the hoped-for unification involved the natural world as well as the psyche. According to analytical psychology, mandalas, with their symmetries, are a symbol of the Self, and of the unification of the supposedly separate worlds of the psyche and the physical universe. In this course, we will examine the overlap of Jung's ideas with the most universal and best tested model of reality in contemporary physics, quantum field theory, whose basic principle is invariance under symmetry transformations.

PETER HOLLAND, MD is a psychiatrist in private practice in Aptos and a member-analyst of the C.G. Jung Institute of San Francisco. In his youth, before medical and analytical training, he immersed himself in the rigors and joys of theoretical physics. He continues to find pleasure in recalling equations and concepts and working out proofs on the back of an envelope.
